For the second consecutive season, Tracy has had the third highest selling NBA jersey in China, based on sales at the two NBA Stores in Beijing, at the NBA’s China Web site, and at more than 30,000 retail locations throughout Greater China where NBA merchandise is available. What’s up out there?
How’s everyone’s summer going? I’m enjoying the off-season even though I’ve been extremely busy. First off, I want to let you all know that the rehab for my shoulder and knee is going well. I’m working hard to get back and would say that I’m about 70% right now. I’m not playing basketball yet or running, but I’m doing on court agility work. I’m on pace to be ready for the season, and I gotta admit, I am VERY excited to get back on the court. Our team has made some great moves. Tracy McGrady has always been good about giving back to his community.
The former Auburndale High basketball star and current NBA superstar has sponsored a yearly Christmas Tournament and is in his 11th year of sponsoring an annual streetball tournament through his foundation. But the What Does It Take To Be #1 Indoor Streetball tournament isn’t just about giving back to the community. For McGrady it’s about giving back to basketball.
“It’s a good competition,” said McGrady, as one of his children bounced on his knee. “The guys come out for the love of the game. There’s not many runs around here for guys that didn’t get a chance. The guys look forward to it.”
The community also looks forward to the event….

Last Saturday a number of lucky fans got to attend Vitamin Water’s Chillin and Grillin with T-Mac event in Houston. Winners from 97.5 FM, the Ticket, joined Tracy for an afternoon of barbecuing, games, and plain old chillin. The event was held at waterside landing at discovery green in Houston, Tx, and was a great time for the 70 fans lucky enough to attend. Video of the event can be seen here.
“It was a great event,” said Tracy. “Cooking is my hidden talent. I love to barbecue. During the off season I do a lot of cookouts and cook for my family and I consider this community part of my family, so…

Tracy McGrady yelled encouragement to the youngster who was trying to retrieve a rebound for the put-back.
“Come on, Bengie!”
How sweet must it have been for the 12-year-old to have one of his sports heroes cheering for him to get it done on the basketball court?
Funny thing, though. Little Bengie’s name isn’t Bengie.
Earlier, McGrady took one look at Jonathan Garcia and thought: “Bengie Molina, catcher for the San Francisco Giants.”
A nickname to remember
Didn’t bother Garcia, who said he will gladly answer to Bengie if McGrady is the one doing the calling. How many of his friends can say an NBA superstar dropped a nickname on them?
“It’s awesome,” Garcia said. “I didn’t come here thinking I would even get to say anything…
